"Look for me in emerald pastures, among the horses I’ve always known.
For a heavenly range is my reward. This ol’ cowboy is finally home."
To benefit the Chelan Jr. Rodeo
Don’s love of horses began early in life. He would often be seen riding horseback from Manson to Chelan on his way to a rodeo or some other event. He was an avid supporter of the junior rodeo and the character, values, work ethic and dedication this American tradition taught our youth. He encouraged his own and other children to participate in the junior rodeo and attended a number of these events over the years.
Horses stayed in his heart and soul even when he wasn't riding. In his latter years, he could be spotted from time to time at the Chelan Saddle Club hanging out with his son Russ' horses. They surely loved his visits. He will be truly missed.
Because of Don’s passion for horses and the junior rodeo, the family asks you to consider making a donation to Chelan Jr. Rodeo in his memory. All funds donated will go directly to support the junior rodeo event and it’s competitors.
Donations can be made through the donate button above or by check made out to Chelan Rustlers Saddle Club and mailed to P.O. Box 1424, Chelan WA 98816. Please indicate “Don McClellan Memorial Donation” on your check.
For decades, young rodeo competitors from around the northwest make the trip to Chelan to take part in the Chelan Jr. Rodeo. Young tots, teens and "in-betweens" compete in more than 50 different events from mutton busting to pole bending to calf roping, steer, wrestling, barreling and much more.
It is part of our mission to foster this lifelong American past-time where participants are given a chance to be part of our region’s rodeo past and at the same time shape the future of junior rodeo for those who follow.
It’s about more than a competition: Jr. Rodeo builds confidence and allows our youth to gain lifelong skills that can be applied beyond rodeo.
The 2020 Chelan Jr. Rodeo will be held on Aug. 1 & 2 and admission is free. This year, eight new events will be added to this year's lineup to increase the challenge. COME OUT AND CHEER ON THESE TALENTED YOUNG RODEO COMPETITORS AND HELP THEM GET THEIR RODEO ON!
Chelan Jr. Rodeo is sanctioned by both Eastern Washington and Caribou Trails Jr. Rodeo Associations.
