For several decades, young rodeo competitors from around the northwest make the trip to Chelan to take part in the Chelan Jr. Rodeo. Young tots, teens and "in-betweens" compete in more than 50 different events from mutton busting to pole bending to calf roping, steer, wrestling, barreling and much more.
It is part of our mission to foster this lifelong American past-time where participants are given a chance to be part of our region’s rodeo past and at the same time shape the future of junior rodeo for those who follow.
It’s about more than a competition: Jr. Rodeo builds confidence and allows our youth to gain lifelong skills that can be applied beyond rodeo.
The 2020 Chelan Jr. Rodeo will be held on Aug. 1 & 2 and admission is free. This year, eight new events will be added to this year's lineup to increase the challenge. COME OUT AND CHEER ON THESE TALENTED YOUNG RODEO COMPETITORS AND HELP THEM GET THEIR RODEO ON!
Chelan Jr. Rodeo is sanctioned by both Eastern Washington and Caribou Trails Jr. Rodeo Associations.
Most rodeo champions got their start with junior rodeo.
Junior rodeo has been a part of American culture since the 1950's, maybe longer.
Every state has several Junior Rodeo Associations that help these competing young rodeo hopefuls earn points for year-end awards so they can advance to the regional, state and national competitions.
Chelan's 2019 Jr. Rodeo was attended by nearly 200 youth from all around Washington, Idaho and even Canada. They competed in 52 events over the course of two-days. The winners walked away with 10 first place buckles and more than $3,500.00 in cash prizes.
